New York Mets Secure Bo Bichette for Three Years
The New York Mets have reached an agreement with talented infielder Bo Bichette for a three-year, $126 million contract. The information was revealed by a source close to the negotiation.
Although the team hasn’t made an official announcement yet, the news comes just after the signing of outfielder Kyle Tucker didn’t materialize.
Bichette is expected to play at second base, a strategy the Mets have planned following the acquisition of infielder Marcus Semien via a trade. Bichette’s arrival promises to significantly strengthen the team’s infield for the upcoming season.
Bichette arrives after a recovery season following a 2024 affected by injuries. In the previous campaign, he demonstrated his worth with an offensive line of .311/.357/.483, including 18 home runs and 94 RBIs. Despite missing part of the regular season due to injuries, he was close to leading the league in hits.
The infielder was also key in the postseason, returning in the World Series against the Dodgers despite a left knee injury suffered in September. With the bat, Bichette recorded a .348 average, drove in six runs, and hit a crucial 442-foot home run in Game 7.
After the season ended, the Toronto Blue Jays offered him a qualifying offer that Bichette rejected. This will allow the Canadian organization to receive a compensatory pick in the 2026 amateur Draft.
With this acquisition, the Mets incorporate one of the most consistent hitters in Major League Baseball, boosting their offense and their ambitions for next season.
