Blue Jays Bolster Roster with Jesús Sánchez from the Astros
The Toronto Blue Jays announced the acquisition of Dominican outfielder Jesús Sánchez, coming from the Houston Astros. The move, confirmed on Friday, involves the transfer of outfielder Joey Loperfido as well. Sánchez, 28 years old, participated in 134 games during the 2025 season, split between the Miami Marlins and Houston. His offensive performance included a batting average of .237, an on-base percentage of .304, and a slugging percentage of .395. In addition, he hit 14 home runs, drove in 48 runs, and stole 13 bases. On the defensive side, Sánchez showed solidity with seven Defensive Runs Saved in the outfield. Originally from Higüey, Dominican Republic, Sánchez was initially signed by the Tampa Bay Rays as an international free agent in 2014. His debut in the Major Leagues came in 2020. Throughout his six seasons in MLB, Sánchez has maintained an offensive line of .239/.307/.420, with 73 home runs and 238 RBIs in 580 games.On the other hand, Joey Loperfido, 26 years old, played in 2025 between Toronto and the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons team. In 41 games in the Major Leagues, he batted .333 with an OPS of .879.
