Warming Bernabel: The Dominican Rookie Captivating the Major Leagues

Santo Domingo – The young Dominican talent Warming Bernabel, belonging to the Colorado Rockies, has been awarded as the National League Player of the Week, after an impressive start to his career in the Major Leagues.

In his first full week in MLB, Bernabel has demonstrated a remarkable offensive ability, batting .462 with 12 hits in 26 at-bats. This outstanding performance includes 7 extra-base hits, consisting of 2 home runs, 1 triple, and 4 doubles.

In addition to his power at the plate, Bernabel drove in 7 runs and scored 5 times, contributing significantly to his team’s performance. His performance positioned him as the league leader in extra-base hits, total bases (24), and slugging percentage (.923). Likewise, he ranked among the top five in OPS (1.385), batting average, hits, and doubles.

The 22-year-old, who debuted in the Major Leagues on July 26, has hit at least one hit in each of his first seven games, achieving multiple hits in four of them. During that period, he batted .500 in 28 at-bats, with 4 doubles, 3 home runs, 1 triple, 8 RBIs, 29 total bases and an OPS of 1.553.

With this distinction, Bernabel becomes the first Rockies rookie to be named Player of the Week since Nolan Jones in October 2023, and the first overall since Brenton Doyle in July 2024.

Bernabel joins Mitchell Page (1977) as the only players in the modern era with at least 14 hits and 8 extra-base hits in their first seven games in the Major Leagues.

Signed by the Rockies in 2018, Bernabel steadily climbed through the minor league system. This season, with Triple-A Albuquerque, he batted .301/.356/.450 with 8 home runs and 45 RBIs in 75 games, prompting his call-up to the big league team in late July.
