United States – Dominican player Bayron Matos, 24, has signed with the Indianapolis Colts practice squad for the remainder of the 2025 NFL season. This move represents a significant step in his ambition to be the first athlete born in the Dominican Republic to officially debut in the league.

With a height of 2.01 meters and a weight of 151 kilograms, Matos was part of the Miami Dolphins’ preseason program. However, a head injury suffered on July 25 sidelined him from the final roster. After his recovery, he was discharged on July 30 and continued his process under the concussion protocol, missing the three preseason games.

The offensive lineman arrived in the NFL in April 2024 as an undrafted free agent, after not being selected in the Draft. His participation in the league’s 2024 International Player Pathway program, which seeks to integrate international talent into American teams, was key.

Prior to American football, Matos had a distinguished career as a pitcher in Dominican baseball. Subsequently, he moved to Chattanooga, Tennessee, where he developed in basketball with Hamilton Heights Christian Academy. Later, he was part of the South Florida Bulls university basketball team (2021-2022), before switching to the American football program the following season.

The athlete, originally from Los Mina, Santo Domingo, continues with his promising sporting career, showcasing the talent and versatility of the Dominican athlete in high-level sports in North America.
