Border Sports Games 2025: Bahoruco shines in the qualifiers

Neiba.- The 2025 Border Sports Games, after a decade of absence, have generated great expectation among athletes and disciplines from the participating provinces. The province of Bahoruco has demonstrated its superiority in various disciplines during the qualifiers. Organized by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation (MIDEREC), the winners of the Southern and Northern border zones will face each other in the final, which will take place in Montecristi from July 9 to 13. The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, highlighted the quality and competition of the games, as well as the integration of the inhabitants of the seven border provinces.

Volleyball

The volleyball teams, both female and male, from Bahoruco were crowned champions in the Southern region qualifiers. In the female branch, Bahoruco defeated Pedernales with partial scores of 25-23, 22-25, and 15-11. Arlin Mariel Cuevas and Ingrid Isabel Román were the most outstanding players for Bahoruco. In the men’s division, the representatives of Bahoruco defeated Elías Piña with scores of 25-13 and 25-13. Marco Llasmin Vargas and Melvin Díaz de León were the most outstanding players.

Boxing

Duvergé qualified four boxers for the finals, while Pedernales and Elías Piña advanced with three each, and Bahoruco with two. Aneury Alexander Franco (Duvergé) defeated Gabriel Piña (Pedernales) by knockout.Wilman Casanova (Elías Piña) prevailed against Walkin Mateo (Neyba).

Basketball

Bahoruco dominated the women’s and men’s basketball competitions. The women of Neyba defeated Pedernales 57-25 in the Marino Pérez de Jimaní indoor court. The Bahoruco men’s team also defeated Pedernales with a score of 73-55.

Chess

In chess, Bahoruco surpassed Independencia province with a perfect score of 8-0.

Table Tennis

Bahoruco demonstrated their dominance in table tennis, winning 8-0 in both the men’s and women’s divisions against Independencia.

Softball

The Bahoruco women’s softball team defeated Elías Piña 16-5. In the men’s category, Bahoruco won against Pedernales by a close score of 1-0.

Futsal

In futsal, the Bahoruco men’s team defeated Independencia 5-1, while the Neyba women’s team defeated Jimaní 3-0.
