Atlético de Madrid Crushes Barcelona in the Copa del Rey

Atlético de Madrid put on a dominant performance by defeating Barcelona with a resounding 4-0 in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-finals, held at the Metropolitano stadium. This result puts the team in a favorable position to reach the final of the tournament.

The scoring was opened early, in the 6th minute, when Eric García, in an attempt to pass the ball back to goalkeeper Joan García, put the ball into his own net, making it 1-0. The lead was quickly extended in the 14th minute, thanks to a goal by Griezmann, who took advantage of an assist from Nahuel Molina to beat Joan García with a left-footed shot (2-0).

The Atlético’s offensive continued in the 33rd minute, with Lookman scoring the third goal after an assist from Julián Álvarez (3-0). Julián Álvarez joined the goalscoring party in the 47th minute, with a powerful shot from the edge of the area that sealed the 4-0.

In the second half, Barcelona tried to react. Cubarsí scored a goal in the 52nd minute, but it was disallowed by VAR due to an offside by Lewandowski, after a six-minute review. Barcelona’s situation worsened in the 84th minute, when Eric García was sent off with a straight red card, also after a VAR review, for a foul on Alex Baena.

The match went on until the 100th minute, with ten minutes of added time.

The second leg will be played on March 3 at Barcelona’s stadium.
