SANT JOAN DESPÍ (Barcelona) – FC Barcelona began preparations for the Catalan derby against Espanyol with an open-door training session at the Johan Cruyff Stadium.

Araujo is back

The main novelty was the return of Ronald Araujo, who rejoined the group after overcoming mental health issues. The Uruguayan defender trained at the same pace as his teammates in front of 5,530 fans. Although Araujo has returned to training, his participation in the derby is not yet confirmed. Pau Cubarsí and Gerard Martín are the main options for the center of defense, with Jules Koundé and Eric García as alternatives.

Pedri and Koundé, ready

Pedri, absent in the last match due to discomfort, also trained normally and is expected to return to the starting eleven. Jules Koundé, who was substituted as a precaution in the match against Villarreal, completed the session without problems and will be available. The main doubt is Dani Olmo, who suffered a dislocated left shoulder. The attacking midfielder did not participate in some exercises and his presence is uncertain.

Festive Atmosphere

The training included activation exercises, physical work, rondos, and a final match. Players from the subsidiary such as Jofre Torrents, Tommy Marqués, and Pedro Fernández ‘Dro’ participated. Lamine Yamal, Pedri, and Raphinha were the most applauded footballers. The absences were Gavi, in the process of recovery, and Andreas Christensen, due to a knee injury. Coach Hansi Flick led the session after the Christmas break. The team’s goal is to maintain the four-point lead at the top of the standings. After the training, the players interacted with the fans. All proceeds from the event will go to the ‘Azulgrana Bracelets’ project of the FC Barcelona Foundation.
