This has been confirmed by the authorities and sources close to the case. The incident took place on December 29, 2025, around 11:00 a.m., on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, one of the most important arteries of the African country. The vehicle, a Lexus SUV in which Joshua and three other individuals were traveling, lost control and collided with a truck that was parked off the road. Preliminary investigation by the Nigerian Traffic Police indicates that the accident was caused by a tire explosion, presumably due to speeding. This triggered a failed overtaking maneuver, resulting in the fatal crash. As a result of the accident:- Anthony Joshua, 36, suffered minor injuries and was transferred to a hospital in Lagos, where he is stable under medical observation.
- Two of his close friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, lost their lives instantly at the scene of the accident. Both were part of Joshua’s training team and accompanied him during his stay in Nigeria.
- The driver of the van remains in intensive care after the impact.
The accident has raised concerns about road safety on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway and has cast doubt on Joshua’s return to the ring.It is confirmed with deep sadness that two close friends and team members have tragically passed away. Anthony was taken to the hospital for tests and treatment. He is in stable condition. Our deepest condolences to the families and we ask for respect for their privacy in this difficult time.
