Anthony Joshua, involved in a tragic accident in Nigeria
The renowned former heavyweight world champion, Anthony Joshua, was involved in a serious car accident in Nigeria, which unfortunately claimed the lives of two of his friends and teammates. This was reported by the authorities and sources close to the case. The incident took place on December 29, 2025, at approximately 11:00 a.m., on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, one of the main arteries of the African country. The vehicle in which Joshua and three other companions were traveling, a Lexus SUV, lost control and collided with a truck that was parked off the road. According to preliminary investigations carried out by the Nigerian Traffic Police, the accident was caused by a tire burst, presumably due to speeding, which led to a failed overtaking maneuver before the impact. As a result of the accident:- Anthony Joshua, 36, suffered minor injuries and was transferred to a hospital in Lagos, where he remains stable under medical observation.
- Two of his close friends, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, lost their lives instantly at the scene of the accident. Both were part of Joshua’s training team and accompanied him during his stay in Nigeria.
- The driver of the van is hospitalized in intensive care after the crash.
The accident has raised concerns about road safety on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway and has cast doubt on Joshua’s return to the ring, especially considering that he was in talks for a highly anticipated fight against Tyson Fury in early 2026.It is confirmed with deep sadness that two close friends and team members have tragically passed away. Anthony was taken to the hospital for tests and treatment. He is in stable condition. Our deepest condolences to the families and we ask for respect for their privacy during this difficult time.
