Alcaraz starts title defense at Roland Garros against Nishikori
The Spanish tennis player Carlos Alcaraz, currently number 2 in the world, will begin his journey at Roland Garros, seeking to revalidate his title. His first match will be against the experienced Japanese Kei Nishikori, who occupies the 62nd position in the world ranking.
The draw held this Thursday in Paris determined the pairings of the tournament. Alcaraz will also avoid the Serbian Novak Djokovic, number 6 in the world, until a possible final.
If he advances, Alcaraz could face Norwegian Casper Ruud in the quarterfinals. Ruud, winner of the Madrid Masters 1,000 and two-time Roland Garros finalist, would represent a tough challenge.
In a hypothetical semifinal, Alcaraz’s rival could be the American Taylor Fritz or the Italian Lorenzo Musetti. Musetti was defeated by the Spaniard in the Monte Carlo final.
On his part, Jannik Sinner, number 1 in the world, will debut against the French Arthur Rinderknech. In the quarterfinals, Sinner could face the British Jack Draper.
Djokovic will start his participation against the American Mackenzie McDonald. In the quarterfinals, he could face the German Alexander Zverev, finalist of the previous edition.
