Alcaraz: A Firm Step in the US Open

Alcaraz, who had already shown an exceptional level in his previous matches, extended his winning streak in the “grand” tournaments, reaching 80 career victories. The 2022 US Open champion has the possibility of regaining the number one spot in the world ranking if he matches or surpasses Jannik Sinner’s performance in this tournament. This triumph marks Alcaraz’s 20th victory on the New York hard court, where he has only suffered three defeats in his career. His current performance is impressive, with 57 wins so far this year and a remarkable record of 42 wins and only two losses since April. In the first match between Alcaraz and Darderi, the Spaniard took control of the match from the start. He got the first break in the second game and dominated the first set, which ended 6-2 in less than 30 minutes.

Despite a brief moment of concern in the second set, where he requested medical attention for discomfort in his right knee, Alcaraz was able to continue without problems. After the match, Alcaraz reassured his fans, indicating that the discomfort was temporary and that he felt fine.

I feel good, I felt something that wasn’t working well in my knee, but after five or six points it was gone. I wanted to be fine, to finish well. I didn’t talk to my team, but I’m not worried about that.

Alcaraz expressed his satisfaction with his performance, highlighting his concentration and energy from the start of the match. “I just tried to start awake, I wanted to start focused, with energy, I think I started well, pushing him to the limit.
