Santo Domingo – Dominican infielder Sergio Alcántara, nicknamed “El Chipi” or “Sergi”, returns to the Major Leagues after being called up from Triple-A by the San Francisco Giants.
Alcántara, 27 years old, was playing with the Sacramento River Cats team, the AAA affiliate of the organization, where he has maintained a consistent performance during this season.
In the 68 games played in minor leagues, Alcántara accumulated 45 hits, including 10 doubles, scoring 28 runs. This demonstrates his ability to contribute offensively and his presence on the bases.
His performance has convinced the Giants’ management, who are looking to reinforce their interior lineup for the second half of the season.
“El Chipi” already has experience in the majors, having played with the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Detroit Tigers, and the Chicago Cubs. His versatility in the infield and his solid defense are crucial factors for this call-up, at a time when San Francisco needs to reinforce its roster.
