Cibao Eagles Strengthen Their Roster for the Round Robin
Santo Domingo – Gian Guzmán, Operations Manager of Baseball for the Águilas Cibaeñas, has detailed the team’s strategies after the Re-entry Draft of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM). The main focus has been to strengthen the team for the Round Robin, especially in the infield and pitching. The team’s first selection was infielder Cristhian Adames, a strategic decision to reinforce the infield area. Guzmán explained that this choice responds to the need to cover the temporary absence of Gerardo Perdomo, who will not be available at the beginning of the Round Robin.Guzmán also highlighted Adames’ versatility, who can play second and third base, and his offensive ability as a switch hitter. Adames had an outstanding season with the Tigres del Licey, demonstrating a solid performance in the regular season. The Eagles made a total of six selections, focusing on strengthening the pitching. In addition to Adames, the team chose pitchers Óscar de la Cruz, Misael Tamárez, Yunior Marte, Carlos Belén and Andrew Pérez, seeking to strengthen their pitching staff for the semifinal phase. Cristhian Adames participated in 49 of the 50 regular season games with the Tigres del Licey. In 169 at-bats, he achieved a .308 average, with 52 hits, three home runs, 12 doubles, 20 runs scored and 22 RBIs. His OBP was .391, the slugging .432 and the OPS .823. Óscar de la Cruz, who had a great performance in the regular season, was another of those chosen. Guzmán highlighted that De la Cruz is a starter who usually pitches deep into games, providing greater flexibility to the team. Regarding potential imported reinforcements, Guzmán mentioned that the team is in conversations with foreign leagues, awaiting their re-entry drafts. Currently, the team has space for imported players. Guzmán assured that the core of the team remains stable and that important reincorporations are expected for the Round Robin, including the return of Perdomo, the reintegration of Amador and the possible activation of Jonathan Clase. Las Águilas Cibaeñas will begin their participation in the Round Robin this Friday, December 27, with the aim of advancing to the Final Series.“We understand that Cristhian Adames is going to give us much more depth in the infield, since Gerardo Perdomo will not be available in the first games of the Round Robin due to a family commitment and would return in January,” Guzmán pointed out.
