Cibao Eagles defeat the Toros del Este in a close match

La Romana – In an exciting match of the semifinal series of the LIDOM 2025-26 tournament, the Águilas Cibaeñas achieved an important 3-1 victory over the Toros del Este at the Francisco A. Micheli Stadium. The timely offense of Cristhian Adames and Ángel Genao, along with effective relief pitching, were key to the Águilas’ triumph. After allowing a run in the first inning, the Eagles’ pitching staff held firm, preventing the Bulls from scoring again. Adames drove in the team’s first run in the first inning, while Genao secured the definitive lead with a hit in the seventh. Jeurys Familia took care of the closing, and despite facing a situation with the bases loaded and two outs, he managed to dominate Eloy Jiménez with a fly ball to left field, obtaining his first save of the Round Robin. With this victory, the Eagles improved their record to 6-5, remaining one game behind the Toros (7-4), who are in second place in the standings, and two behind the Leones del Escogido (8-3), leaders of the tournament, with seven games left to play. Roddery Muñoz (1-0) took the victory after pitching a scoreless inning, while Yaramil Hiraldo (1-1) took the loss.

Match Development

The Eagles took the lead in the first inning thanks to a walk to Steward Berroa, a hit-and-run by Geraldo Perdomo, and a run-scoring single by Cristhian Adames. The Bulls responded immediately, tying the game when Rudy Martin Jr. singled, stole second, and scored on a hit by Manuel Peña. In the sixth inning, the yellows regained the lead. Leody Taveras received a walk, stole second and advanced to third, before scoring on a “wild pitch”, putting the score at 2-1. The run that secured the victory came in the seventh, when Ángel Genao connected a run-scoring single that brought Jerar Encarnación, who had reached second base, to the plate.

Dominant Pitching

Starting pitcher Luis Felipe Castillo worked two innings, allowing one run. The relief was key with Deury Carrasco, Jean Carlos Henríquez, Yunior Marte, Roddery Muñoz, Junior Fernández, Richard Rodríguez and Jeurys Familia, who kept the Toros at bay for the rest of the game. For the Toros, Enny Romero pitched five solid innings of one run and two hits, but had no decision. Hiraldo and Miguel Castro allowed one run each in relief.
