The Cuban Baseball and Softball Federation expressed its disagreement with Cuba’s exclusion from the 2026 Caribbean Series. The event, which was originally going to be held in Venezuela, has been moved to Guadalajara, Mexico, from February 1 to 7.
The Cuban Baseball and Softball Federation indicated that, although the invitation to participate in the tournament came from Venezuela, as the original venue, it was endorsed by the Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation (CBPC), the governing body of the event. Furthermore, the Federation criticized the lack of communication from the CBPC regarding this decision, which it considers important and which disregards previous agreements and the plan approved by Cuba. The CBPC announced on Thursday that Guadalajara will be the venue for the tournament, after approving the proposal of the ARCO Mexican Pacific League. This marks the return of the event to the Mexican city, where it was already held in 2018. The decision to change the venue was made after the leagues of Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic informed that they would not be able to attend the event in Caracas due to external circumstances beyond their control. These circumstances are related to the growing tensions between the United States and Venezuela.“The change of scenario does not justify Cuba’s non-participation, which, moreover, deserves and demands respectful treatment, especially since it is such a sensitive situation for our sport,” stated the Cuban Federation in a statement on the social network X.
