Santo Domingo.- The Dominican Association of Meetings and Sports Events Tourism (Adoturd) met with the U.S. Consul General in the Dominican Republic, William Swaney, with the aim of promoting sports tourism and attracting foreign investment.
Strengthening Ties for Sports Tourism
The meeting sought to consolidate the country’s position as a key destination for sports tourism, foster bilateral collaborations, and attract significant international investments. The meeting highlighted the importance of meetings and sports events tourism as a catalyst for sustainable development, job creation, and tourism diversification, projecting the Dominican Republic globally. During the conversation, three main strategic areas were discussed: international alliances and investment, the impact of sports tourism, and institutional and consular facilitation. In representation of Adoturd, its founding president, Yerik Pérez, and founding member Miguel Estepan were present. Adoturd and Consul Swaney analyzed strategies to attract investments and international organizations in the field of sports and large-scale events. It was agreed to explore high-impact projects to increase the economic and social benefit of sports tourism, as well as to strengthen the country’s international image. Another key topic was the possibility of collaboration between the U.S. Consulate, Adoturd, and other national actors to streamline international mobility processes, visas, and the arrival of sports delegations, congresses, and conventions.Adoturd, for its part, reiterated its role as a strategic link between the public, private and international sectors, for the benefit of national development. Adoturd brings together the main players in the meetings, conventions, incentives and sports events tourism in the Dominican Republic, with the goal of promoting the growth, visibility and innovation of the sector, thus contributing to the economic strengthening and global positioning of the country.Consul Swaney expressed his commitment to support initiatives that strengthen relations between the United States and the Dominican Republic in tourism, sports, and institutional innovation.
