Santo Domingo – Dominican pugilist Carlos “Caballo Bronco” Adames is preparing to defend his world middleweight title (160 pounds), sanctioned by the World Boxing Council (WBC), facing American Austin “Ammo” Williams on January 31st at the iconic Madison Square Garden in New York.

This bout will mark Adames’ third title defense as WBC regular champion. The Dominican boxer won the crown on October 8, 2022, by defeating Mexican Juan Macías Montiel by technical knockout in the third round.

Since he was crowned world champion, “El Caballo Bronco” has participated in four defenses in total. His first defense was as interim champion, defeating the American Julian Williams by knockout. Subsequently, as a regular monarch, he defeated Terrell Gausha by unanimous decision. Then, he drew in Saudi Arabia against the British Hamzah Sheeraz, in a fight that generated controversy and was widely considered favorable to the Dominican.

The expected clash between Adames and Williams will be part of the “The Ring 6” card, which will be led by the stellar fight between Teófimo López and Shakur Stevenson.

Adames, who hasn’t stepped into the ring since February 2025, holds a professional record of 24 wins, 18 of them by way of knockout, one draw, and one loss. For his part, Austin Williams has a record of 19 wins, with 13 knockouts, and one loss.

DAZN platform will be in charge of broadcasting this exciting fight.

Carlos “Caballo Bronco” Adames, currently the only boxing world champion from the Dominican Republic, has been focused on an intense three-month preparation in Las Vegas, Nevada, under the guidance of the renowned Cuban trainer Ismael Salas.
