Abinader Receives Escogido Lions After Winning the LIDOM Championship
Santo Domingo – President Luis Abinader received the Leones del Escogido at the National Palace this Thursday, in an emotional ceremony following their victory in the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM). The meeting took place in the Green Room, where the team presented the champions’ trophy. This event was carried out with great pride and emotion, paving the way for their participation in the 2026 Caribbean Series, which will be held in Jalisco, Mexico.Abinader joined the celebration wearing the team’s scarlet jersey. He encouraged the players to maintain the same level of dedication and effort they demonstrated in the local tournament, assuring the support of the entire nation. As part of the event, the president officially handed over the National Flag to the team representatives. This gesture symbolizes the patriotic commitment with which the Lions will travel to Mexico, and reaffirms the confidence in their ability to achieve a new Caribbean crown for the country. In the activity, President Abinader was accompanied by key figures such as the Administrative Minister of the Presidency, Andrés Bautista; the Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz; the president of LIDOM, Vitelio Mejía; the president of the Leones del Escogido, Eduardo Najri; the team director, José Miguel Bonetti; and Leonardo Aguilera, executive president of Banco de Reservas, along with other authorities and representatives of the sports field.The president extended his congratulations to the board, the technical staff, and the players, highlighting that the team carries the name of the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean tournament.
