Abinader Oversees Progress on Sports Facilities for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games
President Luis Abinader made a supervisory visit to the sports facilities of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, venue for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026. During the inspection, the president highlighted that the works, along with those of the Parque del Este, have reached a 90% overall execution. Abinader highlighted that the renovations are carried out under international standards, which will allow not only the success of the games, but also the celebration of world-class events. As proof of this, a match between the Dominican Republic and the United States national teams was announced for July 4th, with the participation of NBA players. Once the games are over, which will be held from July 24 to August 8, all areas will be available for the training of Dominican athletes.President Abinader assured that the Government has complied with the delivery of the necessary resources for the execution of the works, which include first-class equipment. Likewise, he expressed his confidence in the performance of Dominican athletes. Regarding the Olympic Village, a complex of 1,200 apartments for athletes, Abinader reported that 600 are already ready and that he will make a supervisory visit next week. The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, described the government’s support as extraordinary. For his part, the president of the Organizing Committee, José Monegro, highlighted the unprecedented magnitude of this edition, which will receive about 6,200 athletes and award the largest number of medals in the country’s sports history. A recent report reveals that disciplines such as table tennis, gymnastics, swimming, archery, hockey, rowing, canoeing, and clay shooting already have facilities ready for competition. The facilities that served as sub-venues for the XXIV Central American and Caribbean Games are ready, only requiring some minor maintenance. In the case of equestrian, access for the mobility of horses and their veterinary care have been included, attending to the requirements of the International Equestrian Federation. Among the facilities in the final execution phase are the Handball Pavilion, Combat Pavilion I and Softball Stadium I. Meanwhile, Combat Pavilion II shows a 65% progress, Soccer Stadium II is scheduled to be delivered in May, as is the baseball stadium. The Sports Palace is in the equipment installation phase and the Olympic Stadium also shows significant progress, with the track and equipment already in the national territory. The skating and skateboarding facilities, in the space known as Malecón Deportivo, are 90% complete; the velodrome has begun the track adaptation process; the tennis court is in the adaptation phase, in accordance with technical agreements with the corresponding federation. As for disciplines such as bowling and squash, existing and temporary infrastructures will be used, including the Plaza Bolera and a facility in a conditioned commercial space.“I am satisfied and pleased with the progress of these renovations”
