Sarwagya Singh Kushwaha: An Indian Chess Prodigy Breaks Records at Three Years Old

The young Sarwagya Singh Kushwaha, at just three years old, has made a milestone in the world of chess. He has become the youngest chess player to be included in the ranking of the International Chess Federation (FIDE). This achievement was realized after obtaining his first official rating in homologated tournaments, demonstrating precocious and exceptional talent. With three years, seven months and 20 days, Sarwagya achieved an initial score of 1,572 points in the rapid mode. This happened after defeating several players already classified in recent competitions in India. Previously, the record belonged to another Indian chess player, Anish Sarkar, who set it at three years, eight months, and 19 days in November 2024.

It is a great pride and an honor for us that our son has become the youngest chess player in the world to achieve a FIDE rating. We want him to become a grandmaster.

Siddharth Singh Kushwaha, father of Sarwagya
The father of the young prodigy, Siddharth Singh Kushwaha, expressed his pride in his son’s achievement. Sarwagya’s introduction to chess began as a strategy to reduce his screen time. The FIDE rating is the standard system for evaluating the level of chess players based on their results in official tournaments. The title of Grandmaster is the highest recognition in professional chess. Sarwagya’s case adds to the rise of young talents who are positioning India as an emerging power in world chess.
