Investigations advance regarding the death of a young person in a Pedro Brand protest
The National Police continues to deepen the investigations regarding the tragic incident that occurred on August 7th on the La Cuaba highway, in the municipality of Pedro Brand, where 26-year-old Railly Antonio Rodríguez Soriano lost his life, and 36-year-old Yonny Martínez Flores was injured.
As a fundamental part of the investigative process, the authorities voluntarily received a Carandaí brand pistol, 9-millimeter caliber, serial number T0620-06C07476, which was handed over by a citizen. The weapon, which includes its magazine, has been sent to the Scientific Police laboratories to conduct the required forensic analyses.
Technical analysis of the weapon
The main objective of this expert analysis is to determine if the weapon surrendered was the one used during the confrontation and to establish a technical correspondence with the 9mm caliber casing that was collected by investigators at the crime scene.
Event context
According to preliminary reports, the incident originated during a demonstration in which residents of La Cuaba were blocking the public road with various objects in protest against the installation of a landfill in that area. Amidst the tension, an armed attack occurred that ended the life of Rodríguez Soriano, who later died at the Dr. Vinicio Calventi Hospital due to a projectile wound to the face, while Martínez Flores was struck in the right arm.
The authorities are maintaining an active search for Manuel Armando Silfa Montero, alias Centavo and/or El Guardia, identified as the primary person responsible for firing the shots from the moving vehicle during the altercation.
