Seismic alert: 7.6 magnitude earthquake reported in Panama
A powerful earthquake shook the Pacific region this Friday, triggering an immediate alert regarding the possibility of a tsunami that could affect various nations in Central and South America. The seismic movement, which was felt strongly in the Panamanian capital, has mobilized emergency agencies throughout the continent’s coastal zone.
According to information confirmed by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the seismic event occurred at 12:56 p.m. (local time) with a magnitude of 7.6. The epicenter was located about 10 kilometers west-southwest of Pitaloza Arriba, registering at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Countries under surveillance for tsunami risk
Following the event, a preventive warning was issued covering the Pacific coasts of nine countries. Authorities are maintaining constant monitoring in the following territories:
- Panama
