The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) has issued its forecast for this Sunday, highlighting that the national territory will experience a mostly dry and hot environment. This atmospheric stability is caused by the arrival of an air mass with low moisture content, which combines with a notable concentration of Saharan dust over the country.
Forecast details and possible precipitation
Despite the general stability, the meteorological agency indicates that some passing showers cannot be ruled out:
- Tomorrow: The prevailing east/northeast wind could generate isolated showers in specific points of the northeast region.
- Afternoon: The combination of local effects and the presence of a trough will favor the occurrence of isolated downpours, accompanied by thunderstorms and wind gusts in sectors of Greater Santo Domingo, San Pedro de Macorís, and San Cristóbal.
Recommendations for the heatwave and Saharan dust
The high concentration of Saharan dust will continue to influence the atmospheric landscape, giving the sky a characteristic grayish appearance and keeping temperatures at high levels.
Given this scenario, Alofoke Deportes shares preventive recommendations to safeguard the population’s health, especially for the most vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women, and the elderly:
- Maintain constant hydration through frequent water consumption.
- Use light-colored, lightweight, and preferably loose-fitting clothing.
- Avoid direct sun exposure during peak radiation hours, between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.
- Stay in cool, ventilated, and shaded places.

For Greater Santo Domingo and the National District, the day is expected to start with scattered clouds and clear intervals. However, by the afternoon, an increase in cloudiness is forecast, which could lead to local downpours, thunderstorms, and wind gusts, especially towards the northern sector.
Temperatures in this area will range between a minimum of 24 °C to 26 °C and a maximum that will reach 34 °C to 36 °C, maintaining a high heat index that requires special attention from citizens.
