Tragedy in Syria: Armed attack on bus leaves seven dead in Homs
A day of mourning is being observed in the province of Homs, Syria, following a violent attack carried out this Wednesday against a personnel transport bus. The incident, which occurred in the vicinity of the Masyaf bridge, has left a preliminary toll of seven people dead and four other citizens injured, as confirmed by local health authorities.
The attack was carried out by a group of armed individuals who opened fire on the vehicle while it was in motion. The victims, identified as employees of a private company, were returning to their homes at the time of the ambush. Syrian Civil Defense teams intervened quickly to transport the survivors to various hospitals in the city, where they are receiving specialized medical care.
Authorities’ response to the event
General Bassem Mohamed Shaaban, head of Internal Security in Homs, spoke about the unfortunate event. Although he avoided offering specific details regarding the number of victims in his initial statements, the high-ranking military official guaranteed that security operations have been deployed throughout the sector to secure the area and proceed with the corresponding investigations.
This crime will not go unpunished. We will not allow criminals to threaten the safety of our people or jeopardize the stability we have worked to build in the area.
