Tragedy in Mao: Five members of a family die after fire

A heartbreaking tragedy has shaken the Marino Tió sector, in the municipality of Mao, Valverde province, after a voracious fire occurred early this Tuesday that claimed the lives of five members of the same family, including three girls.

The fatalities were identified as the couple composed of Yudelka del Carmen Goris and Juan De Liz Ventura, along with their young daughters Samanta Ventura, five years old, Yadeli Ventura, eight months old, and another minor of nine years old, whose identity is being confirmed by the authorities.

Emergency work and official response

The incident, which quickly consumed the home located on C Street in the aforementioned sector, immediately mobilized units from the Mao Fire Department. Despite the efforts made by emergency services to extinguish the flames and prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring houses, it was not possible to rescue the occupants of the property alive.

The medical examiner, Dr. Jackelin Salcedo, confirmed the death of the five family members after the fire was fully brought under control, allowing for the removal of the bodies by the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF).

Ongoing research

So far, the exact circumstances that caused the fire remain under investigation. The competent authorities are analyzing the scene and collecting testimonies to determine what factors may have facilitated the rapid spread of the flames and the reasons why the occupants were unable to get out in time.

  • The bodies were transferred to the INACIF in Santiago for the required forensic procedures.
