Mirador Norte National Park celebrates Dominican culture with La Tarde de Son
Santo Domingo Norte prepares for a vibrant encounter with our roots. This coming Sunday, September 27th, the Mirador Norte National Park will be the stage for “La Tarde de Son,” an event designed to highlight the musical identity of Villa Mella and strengthen the cultural ties of the entire community.
The cultural day, which promises to be a family meeting point, will begin at 4:00 in the afternoon at Gate No. 1 of the park. Attendees will be able to enjoy a high-level artistic proposal that will feature the stellar participation of Sonia Cabral and los Científicos del Son, along with the Typical Music Ensemble of Los Hermanos Pujols.
A commitment to folklore and collective memory
This initiative is promoted by the park director, José Manuel López, who has maintained a constant interest in preserving the traditions that define the municipality. For López, this event is not just an artistic presentation, but an opportunity to revitalize spaces for civic coexistence that connect new generations with their musical history.
For decades, the son has been the heart of cultural life in Villa Mella, serving as the quintessential meeting point for families, musicians, and dancers who celebrate our identity through rhythm.

Rescuing the tradition of son
Historically, Villa Mella was the cradle of iconic venues dedicated to son, such as the remembered Monumento del Son. Over the years, the need to recover these spaces became a priority for the area’s cultural managers. “La Tarde de Son” emerges as a response to this community desire, transforming the natural environment of the Mirador Norte into a living space for recreation and folklore.
