Samaná prepares for a new era of tourism and economic growth

The province of Samaná is emerging as one of the most promising development hubs in the Dominican Republic. During the 11th Annual Meeting for the Tourism Development of the region, held in Puerto Bahía, Congresswoman Carmen Williams highlighted the positive impact that new port infrastructure and the increase in cruise ship arrivals will have on the local economy.

The event, held under the slogan “Samaná, sailing towards a new era,” brought together key figures from the public and private sectors with the goal of charting a strategic path to boost the region’s competitiveness.

We continue working to make Samaná the dream destination. We have a president committed to Samaná and to the development of our province.

Key infrastructure: Port Samaná

One of the projects generating the highest expectations is the upcoming opening of Port Samaná, located in the municipal district of Arroyo Barril. This project is considered a fundamental pillar for boosting commerce and increasing the flow of cruise passengers, which translates into a direct opportunity for the growth of the service sector.

Challenges and future vision

The boost in cruise tourism brings with it significant challenges that were analyzed during the session. The central points discussed by the participants include:

  • The creation of direct and indirect jobs for local residents.
  • The promotion of investments that benefit local entrepreneurs and merchants.
  • Continuous improvement in the quality of tourism services offered.
  • The implementation of sustainability strategies to protect the natural resources and cultural wealth of Samaná.

This meeting, organized by the Samaná Tourism Cluster and the Samaná Hotel and Tourism Business Association (AHETSA), with the support of the Ministry of Tourism, reaffirms the commitment of authorities and business leaders to position the province as a benchmark for comprehensive development in the Caribbean.
