Public Prosecutor’s Office requests pretrial detention for defendant in homicide at Los Praditos ballpark
The Public Prosecutor’s Office has formalized a request for a coercive measure consisting of pretrial detention against Lenin Jhericop Núñez de León, identified as the person responsible for the death of Emmanuel Contreras Medina. The tragic event originated from an altercation that occurred on July 1st at a baseball field located in the Los Praditos sector, National District.
The victim, after remaining for several days under intensive care due to the severity of the injuries sustained during the incident, passed away on September 9. The request was filed with the Judicial Office of Permanent Attention Services of the National District by prosecutor Vladimir Viloria, assigned to the Department of Crimes and Offenses against the Person of the National District Prosecutor’s Office.
Prosecution arguments and judicial process
The State’s legal representation maintains that there are sufficient grounds to order the deprivation of liberty, emphasizing the defendant’s lack of ties to the community. According to the investigation, Núñez de León left Dominican territory immediately after the events, which increases the risk of flight.
The defendant was arrested on September 11, 2026, at the Las Américas International Airport (AILA), at which time the arrest warrant issued against him was executed upon his arrival in the country.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office supports its accusation with a robust set of evidence, which includes key testimonies, the forensic medical certificate, the death scene investigation report, as well as records of conversations on digital platforms and security camera recordings that captured the moment of the event.
Legal classification
Provisionally, the authorities have classified this act as a violation of articles 295 and 304 of the Dominican Penal Code, which define and punish voluntary homicide. Currently, the case is awaiting the corresponding court to schedule the hearing to determine the definitive coercive measure to be imposed against the defendant.
