Provisional detention ordered for grandmother linked to child abuse case in Los Santos
A Guarantee Court in the province of Los Santos has ordered the provisional detention of Luris Edith Cedeño, the maternal grandmother of a 10-year-old minor whose death in Pedasí is the subject of a deep judicial investigation. The decision was made following a hearing held at the Accusatory Penal System of Las Tablas, where the accused was charged with alleged aggravated child abuse.
The case, which has shocked the community, surrounds the death of a child identified as Jasset. Although the hypothesis of suicide was initially handled, the authorities are keeping the investigations open to clarify the real circumstances of the death and determine the corresponding criminal responsibilities.
Details of the judicial process
During the hearing, which lasted for more than two hours, the senior prosecutor of Los Santos, Liberia Cedeño, detailed the actions of the Public Ministry. Among the actions presented before the guarantee judge were requests for data seizure with subsequent control. After evaluating the elements presented, the court declared the apprehension of the woman, who had been previously captured by the National Police, to be legal.
The precautionary measure issued does not represent a conviction, but rather a legal provision while the Public Prosecutor’s Office continues to gather evidence to clarify the events that occurred.
Alofoke DeportesInvestigation into repeated abuse
The defense for the accused, represented by lawyer Suky Yard, pointed out that the investigations point to acts of child abuse that allegedly occurred repeatedly since 2022. The defense emphasized that the process should not be limited solely to the figure of the maternal grandmother, suggesting that there are other elements and individuals who could be linked to the case as the investigation progresses.
- The case file remains under seal to protect the identity and well-being of the siblings of the deceased minor.
- The siblings are under an alternative family care arrangement, while the defense evaluates requesting that the paternal grandmother assume guardianship.
- Authorities have questioned the actions of institutions that allegedly knew about the children’s vulnerable situation for some time.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office has reaffirmed its commitment to deepening the investigation, not ruling out the possibility of new hearings or additional charges being filed, with the goal of ensuring justice and protecting the integrity of the minors involved in this complex case.
