Complaint in Manoguayabo: Pregnant woman demands removal of chemicals due to the proximity of her delivery
A high-tension situation is being experienced in the Bella Colina sector, in Manoguayabo, Santo Domingo Oeste, where a woman who is eight months pregnant has raised her voice to denounce the presence of multiple tanks with chemicals stored on the property adjacent to her home. The complainant, identified as Liz Marini, asserts that this problem has persisted for years and represents an imminent risk to her health and that of her future baby.
According to the details provided by Marini, the containers allegedly contained substances such as chlorine, formalin, and Mistorin. The presence of these materials not only generates strong odors but has also caused an increase in the proliferation of mosquitoes and rodents, which has forced the family to carry out constant fumigation sessions to try to keep the environment habitable.
I cannot give birth in that situation. It is a constant anguish not knowing if I will be able to return with my baby to a house surrounded by chemicals that affect my health and my peace of mind.

Breach of legal agreements
The conflict involves the stepmother of the affected party, Wendy Cristina Santana Díaz, who resides across from Marini’s property. Although an attempt was made in the past to mediate through an agreement, the situation has escalated to the legal realm. Documentation from the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for the Defense of the Environment and Natural Resources, under file 183-2024, details that there was a signed commitment on December 4, 2025.
- The agreement granted a 60-day period for the relocation of the plastic materials.
- Said period formally expired on February 2, 2026.
- Despite the records of non-appearance, the tanks remain in the same location.
An urgent call to the authorities
Marini has pointed out that, in her attempts to seek solutions, Public Health authorities have expressed the difficulty of moving such a quantity of containers due to the lack of a space authorized for their final disposal. However, the mother insists that time is running out and she requires a definitive answer before the birth of her child.
The complainant emphasizes that her claim is not only for her personal well-being, but also for the environment in which her other child is growing up. Alofoke Deportes remains aware of this case, which highlights the need for rapid intervention by the competent authorities to ensure a safe and healthy environment for this family in the Santo Domingo Oeste municipality.
