Dominican Republic achieves international recognition in quality standards
The Dominican Republic has reached a significant milestone in its quality infrastructure after obtaining international recognition for the Dominican Accreditation Body (ODAC). This endorsement, granted under the ISO/IEC 17021-1 standard, allows the institution to certify management systems with global reach standards.
The significant achievement was made official during the 35th General Assembly of the Inter-American Accreditation Cooperation (IAAC), held in Lima, Peru. This accreditation validates the technical competence of the ODAC to evaluate bodies that certify processes under world-class requirements, a strategic step that raises the competitiveness of the national productive sector.
A boost to national competitiveness
With this recognition, Dominican organizations have greater tools to demonstrate their compliance with international standards, facilitating their insertion into foreign markets and eliminating technical barriers to trade. The executive director of ODAC, Ángel David Taveras Difo, highlighted the positive impact of this distinction for the country.
This recognition represents an important step for the country and is the result of a technical and institutional work process, as well as the continuous strengthening of our capabilities. Today, that effort allows us to continue advancing and to consolidate trust in the accreditation services offered by the country within the international system.
Ángel David Taveras Difo, Executive Director of ODAC
Strengthening international projection
Taveras Difo emphasized that the work of the ODAC is centered on impartiality and objectivity, essential values for generating trust in evaluation processes. The strengthening of this institution translates into direct support for the productive sector, allowing the Dominican Republic to compete on equal terms in an increasingly demanding global market.
Under the current management, the ODAC has experienced constant expansion in its operational capacity, achieving previous milestones in various technical areas:
- Accreditation of testing and calibration laboratories under the ISO/IEC 17025 standard.
- Certification of inspection bodies in accordance with the ISO/IEC 17020 standard.
- Consolidation of the scope for management system certification bodies (ISO/IEC 17021-1).
This new breakthrough ratifies the organization’s commitment to excellence and its fundamental role as a pillar of quality infrastructure, facilitating trade and ensuring reliable evaluation processes for the entire Dominican business ecosystem.
