The name of Carlos José Troche Rodríguez, widely known in the public sphere as “Nino Dollar,” has once again grabbed headlines after being identified by the National Police as the alleged person responsible for a tragic traffic accident that occurred on August 15th on Abraham Lincoln Avenue, in the National District. The event resulted in the loss of two lives and has generated deep consternation among the citizenry.

The incident took place during the early morning hours, when an SUV collided with a motorcycle carrying three people: Wilmer Rodríguez, his daughter Wilkaren Rodríguez, and a third passenger. Sadly, the father and his daughter passed away due to the crash, while the survivor sustained serious injuries.
According to the authorities’ reports and the complaints from the victims’ families, the driver of the vehicle allegedly reversed to flee the crime scene without providing aid to those affected. After a two-day search, Troche Rodríguez voluntarily surrendered to the authorities on August 17, initiating the corresponding judicial process.
The investigation seeks to clarify the exact circumstances of the event and determine legal responsibilities. Currently, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has requested pretrial detention for the defendant, whose coercive measure hearing was scheduled for Saturday, August 22.

A history marked by legal conflicts
This episode does not represent the first time that Troche Rodríguez has been involved in police investigations. His record includes various precedents that have captured public attention in recent years:
- July 2022: He was arrested after being found in possession of a 9-millimeter Glock pistol without the required legal documentation.
- August 2023: Detained during raids against structures dedicated to cybercrime, initially serving three months of preventive detention, a measure that was later changed to a cash bond.
- May 2026: Arrested along with 16 other people in San José de las Matas, where authorities seized an AM-15 rifle and other weapons. On that occasion, he obtained his release under a cash bond of 500,000 pesos.
Previous political career
Beyond his legal troubles, “Nino Dollar” also ventured into Dominican politics. During the 2020 municipal elections, he ran as a candidate for councilman for the Social Christian Reformist Party (PRSC) in the province of Puerto Plata. In that contest, he obtained 150 preferential votes, although he did not manage to secure a seat in the municipal council.
Currently, the judicial process is at a crucial stage. While society awaits justice for the deaths of Wilmer and Wilkaren Rodríguez, the courts will determine the necessary precautionary measures to ensure that the accused answers to the law, always maintaining their presumption of innocence until a final sentence is handed down.
