Dominican Republic regularizes commitments with the Central American Council for Housing and Human Settlements

The Dominican Government, through the Ministry of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED), has taken a fundamental step to strengthen regional integration by regularizing outstanding payments to the Central American Council for Housing and Human Settlements (CCVAH). This action, led by Minister Víctor -Ito- Bisonó, brings the country up to date with the quotas accumulated since 2015.

The management involved a total disbursement of US$151,701.91, covering the entire period until 2025 and including an advance payment for 2026. With this payment, the Dominican State reaffirms its policy of transparency and compliance, ensuring its active participation in the cooperation bodies of the Central American Integration System (SICA).

Strengthening urban resilience at a regional level

The relevance of this body lies in its ability to address shared challenges, such as urban planning, infrastructure security, and resilience in the face of natural phenomena. By being up to date with its obligations, the Dominican Republic not only ensures its voice in regional decisions but also opens doors to technical assistance and the exchange of best practices.

We are honoring a commitment that the country had pending for more than a decade, but, above all, strengthening our participation in a space from which we can share experiences, access technical assistance, and build solutions together with other countries that face similar challenges in terms of housing, habitat, and urban development.

Víctor -Ito- Bisonó, Minister of Housing, Habitat and Buildings

Benefits of regional cooperation

The Secretariat for Central American Social Integration (SISCA) recognized the country’s effort, highlighting that this regularization evidences the Dominican commitment to social integration and sustainable development. Among the advantages of this active membership are:

  • Access to specialized technical assistance programs.
  • Exchange of knowledge on housing and human settlement policies.
  • Strengthening of MIVHED’s institutional capacities.
  • Joint response capacity to common risks in the Central American and Caribbean region.

For the head of MIVHED, collaboration is vital, as it allows for learning from the experiences of others and sharing Dominican progress. This strategy seeks to ensure that regional cooperation translates into more effective public policies that improve the quality of life for citizens within the national territory.
