Tigres del Licey consolidate their lead after defeating the Estrellas Orientales

The Tigres del Licey reaffirmed their dominance in the current winter baseball season by prevailing 2-1 against the Estrellas Orientales at the Tetelo Vargas Stadium in San Pedro de Macorís. With this result, the blue team maintains its privileged position in the standings, reaching a record of 9 wins and 4 losses.

Blue mound dominance

The felines’ success was made possible thanks to impeccable work from the mound. Albert Abreu led the rotation with a quality start over five innings, in which he allowed just three hits and one run, while striking out six opponents. The blue bullpen maintained absolute control of the game, working the final four episodes with a combined effort of two hits, one walk, and five strikeouts.

The Licey pitching staff looked airtight, allowing only five hits throughout the entire game and securing a vital victory to remain in the first position of the tournament.

Offensive keys and outcome

The Tigres’ offense knew how to capitalize on opportunities, including the defensive errors of the home team. The first run came in the second inning, while the definitive score occurred in the seventh inning, when Elier Hernández took advantage of a double steal play and a wild pitch by reliever Jefry Yan to cross the plate.

  • Game decision: Michael Arias earned the win, while Jefry Yan took the loss.
  • Save: Jean Carlos Mejía closed the game, recording his fifth save of the season.
  • Batting highlights: Gustavo Núñez finished 2-for-5 with a stolen base and Bryan Lavastida contributed two hits. For the Estrellas, Edgar Quero stood out with two hits and César Prieto hit an RBI double.

Upcoming engagement

After this important road victory, the Tigres del Licey are preparing for their next challenge. The team will travel to Estadio Cibao this Tuesday to face the Águilas Cibaeñas, in a game scheduled for 7:30 at night.
