Leones del Escogido begin the road to a three-peat: Date and training details
The Leones del Escogido, current back-to-back champions of the Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM), have marked the start of their preparation work on their calendar. With the goal of defending their crown, the scarlet team will begin their official training on September 25th.
The practices will take place at the New York Yankees academy facilities, located in Boca Chica, formally starting at 9:00 in the morning. Carlos Peña, general manager of the organization, confirmed that the call is directed to all players on the native reserve list and the talents selected in the most recent LIDOM Rookie Draft.
An armored squad for the 2026-27 season
After achieving glory in the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons, the Lions have worked hard during the off-season to maintain their competitiveness. Management has executed strategic moves to strengthen the roster, highlighting the following additions and renewals:
- New free agent signings: Michael De la Cruz (catcher), Radhamés Liz (pitcher), Marco Hernández and Iván Castillo (infielders).
- Acquisitions via trade: Vidal Bruján (utility) and Dinelson Lamet (pitcher).
- Key renewals: Erik González, Sócrates Brito, Franchy Cordero, José Marmolejos, Héctor Neris and Jimmy Paredes.
The combination of established talent and young prospects is the bet of the ‘melenudos’ to reach their nineteenth national title and consolidate their dynasty in Dominican winter baseball.
Inaugural duel at the Quisqueya
The excitement of winter baseball will arrive at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium on October 16. On that date, the Leones del Escogido will open the 2026-27 tournament by facing the Tigres del Licey, in what promises to be an electrifying start to the season for the capital’s fans.
