Jannik Sinner misses the US Open due to injury

Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner, the current world number one, confirmed this Friday news that directly impacts the end of the Grand Slam season: his absence from the US Open. The player has prioritized his health, after failing to recover in time from a persistent injury to his right knee.

Despite having maintained constant communication with his medical and performance team, and having attempted to resume training on the courts of Monte Carlo over the last few days, Sinner concluded that his physical condition is still not optimal to face a high-demand tournament like the US Open. This withdrawal adds to his recent absences at the Toronto and Cincinnati Masters 1000, where he also chose to withdraw to treat the same ailment.

Obviously I am very sad and disappointed. New York holds a special place for me and I was looking forward to returning to compete in front of the tournament fans.

The path to recovery

Following his outstanding performance at Wimbledon, where he was crowned champion for the second consecutive year, the world number one has remained away from official competition. His current strategy consists of staying in Europe to focus exclusively on a comprehensive rehabilitation process. The goal set by his team is to ensure a full recovery that will allow him to return to the circuit during the Asian tour, with his sights set on the Beijing and Shanghai tournaments.

Impact on the US Open

The absence of Sinner, who was listed as the top seed of the tournament, significantly alters the main draw of the New York event. The US Open, scheduled to be held from August 30 to September 13, will feature high-caliber figures, highlighting the presence of Carlos Alcaraz, who arrives as one of the great favorites and defending champion in this edition.
