Intrant promotes road modernization with the implementation of photo enforcement in the Dominican Republic
The National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant) has launched an ambitious short-term plan to transform traffic management in the country. The central project of this initiative is the implementation of photo-fines, a technological tool designed to strengthen the enforcement of traffic violations and optimize vehicle control on the main roads of the Dominican Republic.
Juan Manuel Méndez, executive director of Intrant, highlighted that this system will allow authorities to use advanced devices to identify irregular situations in real time. The technology will not only detect violations, but will also facilitate immediate access to the vehicle’s and its driver’s history.
There is equipment that allows you to determine whether or not the vehicle was inspected, and it even shows the background of the person driving it.

Technology at the service of road safety
The adoption of traffic cameras represents a significant shift towards the digitalization of traffic. This measure seeks to reduce reliance on in-person checks, allowing for more efficient and constant supervision. Among the main objectives of this modernization are:
- Reduction of vehicular congestion in Greater Santo Domingo and other provinces.
- Improvement in the authorities’ response capacity regarding non-compliance with regulations.
- Integration of modern systems into the traffic light network and technical vehicle inspection processes.
- Strengthening of road safety through more precise digital enforcement.
For this system to be effective, Intrant will work in close coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Safety (Digesett) and other key agencies in the registration and control of vehicles. Inter-institutional collaboration is fundamental to ensure that the process of identification, notification, and processing of infractions is carried out under a solid and transparent legal framework.
With these actions, Intrant reaffirms its commitment to raising mobility standards across the national territory, betting on technological innovation as the main axis to foster a culture of respect for traffic laws and ensure more orderly travel for all citizens.
