Intrant evaluates measures to compensate drivers following changes in license validity

The National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant) has announced that it is in the process of analysis to determine the appropriate methodology to compensate citizens whose driver’s licenses were issued with a validity of only two years, despite recent updates to current regulations.

The institution explained that its technical teams are currently working on the operational adjustments necessary to implement the changes stipulated in Decree 675, recently issued by the Executive Branch. This decree modifies the driver’s license regulations to align with the Constitutional Court’s ruling TC/0904/26.

New regulation establishes a four-year validity

With the entry into force of this new provision, a four-year validity period for driver’s licenses has been uniformly established throughout the national territory. The main objective of this measure is to standardize administrative processes and provide greater convenience to Dominican drivers.

  • Intrant is working on creating a compensation mechanism for those affected.
  • The measure arises following Decree 675, which modifies the traffic regulations.
  • The standardized validity period will now be four years for all categories.

The institution must establish the corresponding procedure for those who already hold documents issued for two years, in order to apply the new provision.

The entity has reiterated that the commitment is to ensure that citizens are not harmed by the transition between the previous regulations and the current ones. In the coming days, the agency is expected to provide precise details on the procedure that drivers must follow to regularize their situation under the new validity parameters.
