INEFI clarifies reasons behind temporary closure of athletics track in San Francisco de Macorís
The National Institute of Physical Education (INEFI) reported that the recent suspension in the use of the athletics track at the sports complex in San Francisco de Macorís is strictly due to a technical maintenance and warranty evaluation process. This measure is being taken upon the completion of the first year since its official handover, which took place within the framework of the National School Games.
Alberto Rodríguez, executive director of INEFI, pointed out that specialists together with representatives of the synthetic material supplier company are working on the ground. The main objective is to inspect the current state of the infrastructure and execute the necessary adjustments to ensure the longevity of this modern sports facility.
It is a specialized, top-tier facility, the first blue one in the country, which represented a significant investment by the Dominican State. Like any high-performance work, it requires periodic inspections and a proper usage protocol to prevent premature deterioration.
INEFI
Commitment to sports infrastructure
The institution emphasized that the closure should not be interpreted as negligence or an arbitrary measure. On the contrary, it is an exercise of responsibility to preserve public heritage and maintain the international standards required for the preparation of athletes in the Duarte province.
Maintenance work began immediately after the track hosted the national school athletics tournament finals, an event that allowed technicians to carry out a detailed survey of the surface conditions. Following the optimization, INEFI will seek to ensure that the use of the track is carried out under specialized supervision and exclusively for the sports disciplines for which it was designed.
- In-depth technical inspection after one year of intensive use.
- Application of corrective measures by the material supplier company.
- Guarantee of international standards for future competitions.
- Reopening subject to the successful completion of preventive work.
Finally, INEFI reiterated its willingness to maintain an open dialogue with the local and legislative authorities of the province, assuring the sports community that the track will be operational again as soon as the preventive maintenance protocols are concluded.
