Weather forecast: Intense heat and isolated downpours mark this Friday in the Dominican Republic
The Dominican Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) has issued its daily report, warning that this Friday the national territory will experience a combination of morning showers and afternoon downpours, accompanied by temperatures that will maintain a stifling heat index for Dominicans.
Although the tropical wave that was affecting the country is currently moving over the western part of Haiti, gradually moving away, the remaining moisture and the east/northeast wind flow will continue to influence local atmospheric conditions.
Areas under rainfall alert
For today, it is expected that precipitation will manifest in the following way:
- During the morning: Showers are expected in Samaná, María Trinidad Sánchez, Duarte, Hato Mayor, El Seibo, San Cristóbal, San José de Ocoa, Barahona, Azua, and Pedernales.
- During the afternoon: The outlook will change to local downpours with possible thunderstorms, mainly affecting Monte Plata, Sánchez Ramírez, La Vega, San Juan, Santiago Rodríguez, and Elías Piña.
It is estimated that these rainfall conditions could extend until the early hours of the night in the aforementioned areas.
Recommendations for extreme heat
Heat will continue to be the main feature with maximum temperatures ranging between 34 °C and 36 °C, while minimums will remain between 24 °C and 26 °C. It is essential that the population takes preventive measures to avoid heatstroke.

- Ingest liquids constantly, preferably water.
- Use light clothing and light colors.
- Avoid direct exposure to sunlight during hours of greatest intensity.
- Pay special attention to children, older adults, and pregnant women, who are the groups most vulnerable to high temperatures.
Tracking Tropical Storm Dolly
Internationally, Indomet is monitoring the evolution of Tropical Storm Dolly. The system is currently located about 1,840 kilometers east of Martinique, in the Lesser Antilles.
With maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h and a westward movement at a speed of 39 km/h, citizens are urged to stay informed through upcoming official bulletins to learn of any changes in its trajectory or intensity.
