Preliminary hearing against those involved in the death of driver Deivy Abreu postponed
The Second Instruction Court of Santiago has determined to postpone until next October 27 the preliminary hearing being held against seven individuals accused of the homicide of Deivy Carlos Abreu Quezada, who worked as a driver for a waste collection truck. The tragic event took place on April 17, 2026.
The resolution was issued by magistrate Job García Hurtado, addressing the requests submitted by the technical defense teams. The lawyers argued the need to have the required legal time to thoroughly analyze the accusation formalized by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, as well as to complete their defense briefs and manage the evidentiary proceedings necessary for the process.
Although the Public Prosecutor’s Office made efforts to notify the documentary evidence, the defense still requires time to study the file and present its arguments with precision.

Legal representatives of the victim’s family, including Álvaro Núñez and José Martínez Brito, confirmed that specific requests were addressed during the session, including the delivery of audiovisual material requested by one of the parties. As explained by the plaintiff, several of the defendants are still within the procedural deadline to present their defense arguments, which justifies the extension of the judicial calendar.
- Defendants: Adony Antonio Ureña Ventura, Andrés Monclú González, Carlos Andrés Roa Morán, Miguel García Balbuena, Joanfry Joel Núñez, Juan Carlos Soto Ortiz, and Kevin Francisco Metz Cruz.
