Gonzalo Castillo deploys work agenda in Puerto Plata focused on production and water resources

The presidential candidate for the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), Gonzalo Castillo, carried out an extensive workday in eight districts of the Puerto Plata province. The tour’s main objective was to present his management proposals focused on food security, job creation, and the strategic use of water resources in the northern region.

The political leader’s agenda covered the towns of Sabaneta de Yásica, Cabarete, Sosúa, Montellano, San Felipe, Maimón, Imbert, and Altamira. During these meetings, Castillo maintained direct contact with the residents, who expressed their concerns regarding the cost of the basic food basket, the scarcity of job opportunities, deficiencies in the supply of drinking water, power outages, and the state of road infrastructure.

A country of opportunities begins with the essentials: having food on the table, work to bring it home, and opportunities so that our young people do not have to leave their communities in order to get ahead.

Strategic proposals for the water sector

One of the central pillars of Castillo’s visit was the presentation of a plan for the construction of dams at strategic points in the province, specifically on the Yásica and Bajabonico rivers. According to the candidate, these infrastructures are key to the sustainable development of the area.

  • Dam on the Yásica River: The project seeks to ensure the supply of drinking water for both local communities and the tourism sector, in addition to serving as a source of electricity generation and a preventive measure against potential flooding.
  • Dam on the Bajabonico River: This work would be designed to enhance irrigation capacity and strengthen agricultural dynamism in the municipalities of Luperón, Villa Isabela, and Belloso.

Castillo emphasized that Puerto Plata possesses exceptional productive and tourism potential which, through proper management of its resources, will allow for the reactivation of the local economy and provide new growth perspectives for Dominican youth.

This visit is part of the national strategy being developed by the candidate ahead of the PLD internal primary, scheduled for October 18th, where he reaffirms his commitment to the comprehensive development of the country’s provinces.
