Águilas Cibaeñas bet on depth and versatility for the 2026-2027 season

With the firm goal of capturing the crown in the upcoming Dominican Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) campaign, the general manager of the Águilas Cibaeñas, Gian Guzmán, has outlined the team’s strategy. The Santiago organization seeks to combine the stability of its core with key pieces that provide greater solidity in pitching and defensive flexibility.

During the official presentation of the roster, Guzmán emphasized that the team’s structure will remain faithful to the vision of the previous season, but with strategic adjustments designed to provide manager Luis “Pipe” Urueta with a wider range of tactical options.

This year we will have a team very similar to last year’s, counting on a lot of versatility, since we have several players who can play in different positions.

Versatile talent and familiar faces

The players’ ability to cover multiple positions will be one of the pillars for the Águilas. Standing out in this group are figures such as Adalberto Mondesí, Raynel Delgado, J.C. Escarra, and Steward Berroa. Likewise, the Águilas fanbase celebrates the return of Christopher Morel, who is already working fully with the team after his absence in the last tournament.

Strengthening the pitching staff

For management, pitching represents the greatest evolution compared to the previous year. The starting rotation will look strengthened with names like Joan Adon, Gerson Garabito, Jorge Tavárez, and left-hander Jhordany Mezquita, who will be joined by two international reinforcements in the coming days.

Regarding the bullpen, the Águilas have assembled a high-caliber group of relievers, including:

  • José Leclerc
  • Jorge Alcalá
  • Luis González
  • Justin Martínez

Guzmán underscored the importance of having Leclerc and Alcalá back, as well as the proven effectiveness of left-hander Luis González in the winter circuit. Regarding Justin Martínez, the executive confirmed that he will be available from the start of the championship, subject to scheduled usage guidelines.

The organization is also finalizing details for the integration of two foreign position players, a center fielder and an infielder, with the purpose of putting the finishing touches on a roster designed to contend for the title in the 2026-2027 LIDOM season.
