Fugitive sentenced to 30 years in prison captured in Santo Domingo East

The Public Ministry achieved the capture of Carlos Alberto Peguero, popularly known as Berny, who was a fugitive from justice after evading his penitentiary responsibility on July 31st. The 30-year-old individual was serving a definitive sentence of three decades for a homicide committed in the province of El Seibo.

Peguero was located this Sunday in a residential area located in the vicinity of Hípica Avenue, in the San Bartolo sector of Los Frailes, in the municipality of Santo Domingo East. The subject had escaped after obtaining a work permit that was granted to him by the Sentence Execution Court of the Judicial Department of San Pedro de Macorís, from which he never returned to the detention center.

Details of the capture operation

From the moment the breach of permit and subsequent escape were confirmed, the authorities initiated an operational deployment to locate their whereabouts. This effort, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, culminated in the execution of the judicial arrest warrant in the eastern part of the capital.

The arrest of Carlos Alberto Peguero is a result of the intelligence and search efforts activated to ensure that citizens sentenced for serious crimes effectively serve their sentences within the Dominican judicial system.
