More than 200 people surrender to authorities in the last month

The Minister of Interior and Police, Faride Raful, reported that approximately 200 individuals who appeared on the authorities’ wanted lists have voluntarily surrendered to justice over the last few weeks. The official took the opportunity to make a direct call to all those who have pending arrest warrants to present themselves before the corresponding authorities.

Everyone who is being sought and is on a list, turn yourself in to justice.

Faride Raful, Minister of Interior and Police

Raful detailed that each of the citizens who has chosen to turn themselves in is being processed under the due rigor of the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the competent courts, ensuring that the cases follow their legal course.

Comprehensive strategy against crime

The citizen security plan implemented by the Government is not limited solely to the deployment of police patrols. As the minister explained, the strategy is comprehensive and covers various fronts to attack criminality from its root. Among the highlighted actions are:

  • Constant reinforcement of patrolling in vulnerable areas.
  • Execution of strategic raids against illicit substance sales points.
  • Inter-institutional coordination with State agencies.
  • Improvement of urban infrastructure, including the installation of 250 new streetlights in Santo Domingo to strengthen nighttime visibility and security.

Social approach and respect for fundamental rights

Beyond the operational work of the Joint Task Force, the current administration seeks to transform coexistence in prioritized sectors through a needs assessment. This involves the active participation of the ministries of Health, Education, Sports, and Culture, in order to offer development alternatives to young people and strengthen the social fabric.

Finally, Raful underscored the importance of maintaining unrestricted respect for human rights during operations. The head of Interior and Police emphasized that any irregularity on the part of law enforcement agents will be investigated, reiterating that the fight against crime must be effective but always in adherence to due process and the law.
