Leones del Escogido strengthen their pitching with a strategic move

The Leones del Escogido have made official a key move in their structure to strengthen their pitching staff. The scarlet management, led by Carlos Peña, completed a trade with the Toros del Este that brings pitchers Winston Santos and Leonardo Taveras to the organization, in addition to a seventh-round pick for the 2027 Rookie Draft. In exchange, infielder Eguy Rosario becomes part of the La Romana franchise.

For Carlos Peña, this transaction is fundamental within the long-term planning of the two-time national champions. “With Santos and Taveras, we incorporate two arms that interest us and that expand our options both for the present and for the future. In addition, we add a seventh-round pick that gives us another asset to continue strengthening our organization,” stated the general manager.

Profile of the new hairy arms

The arrival of Winston Santos represents a commitment to power. The 24-year-old pitcher, ranked as the Texas Rangers’ number 16 prospect, stands out for a fastball that reaches 100 miles per hour. Although he had a brief appearance in the Major Leagues this year, his Minor League record is solid, accumulating 499 strikeouts in 451 innings of work over six seasons.

For his part, Leonardo Taveras brings an important international track record. The 28-year-old pitcher from La Vega has experience in the St. Louis Cardinals’ minor league circuits, as well as appearances in the winter leagues of Puerto Rico, Venezuela, and the Mexican Baseball League. Recently, he saw action with the Long Island Ducks, where he recorded a 3.54 ERA.

Acknowledgment to Eguy Rosario

We thank you for everything you represent as a player and wish you the best. This move is in response to a roster construction decision and to continue creating the greatest number of options available for our pitching staff.
