Leones del Escogido shut out the Toros in a pitching duel

On a night marked by dominance from the mound, the Leones del Escogido defeated the Toros del Este 2-0 at the Estadio Quisqueya Juan Marichal. With this result, the scarlet team managed to balance their record at the start of the season, tying their record with the team from La Romana.

The outcome in the final stretch

The match remained a tight pitching duel until the eighth inning. The parity was broken by Jonathan Guzmán, who hit a key single to right field, driving in John Gil—who was pinch-running for Andy Ibáñez—to the plate. Shortly after, a strategic play sealed the scoreboard: Vidal Bruján executed a precise bunt that allowed Michael De la Cruz to score from third base, establishing the final 2-0 score.

The pitching of the two-time national champions was decisive in securing the victory, keeping the opposing offense at bay throughout the entire game.

Scarlet mound dominance

Starting pitcher Radhamés Liz set the tone by throwing four innings of just two hits and two strikeouts. After his departure, the relief corps consisting of Juan Mercedes, Patrick Halligan, Kelly Austin, Alex Colomé, and Robinson Martínez took charge of silencing the Toros’ offense. The effectiveness of the bullpen was such that they retired 13 of the last 14 batters faced.

  • Win: Alex Colomé
  • Loss: Phillips Valdez
  • Save: Robinson Martínez (2nd of the season)

After this matchup, both teams have a 3-4 record in the standings. The series between both squads will continue this Sunday, when they move to the Francisco A. Micheli Stadium in La Romana for the game scheduled at 5:00 in the afternoon.
