Dominican youth exceed 100 hours in the Guinness World Record reading challenge
The team of five young Dominicans that is part of the “Youth Out Loud” challenge has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing the first 100 hours of uninterrupted reading. This challenge, promoted by the Ministry of Youth, has as its main goal to reclaim for the Dominican Republic the Guinness World Record for team reading aloud.
Since the start of the event on August 31st, the participants have complied with the strict supervision protocols established by the international organization. The Minister of Youth, Carlos J. Valdez Matos, highlighted the determination of the members, who maintain an unwavering commitment to the goal of fostering the habit of reading in new generations.
These five young people remain unstoppable, all with a firm commitment, which is to inspire Dominican youth to read, to know the power of reading.

Technical details and team strategy
To ensure the effort is validated, the team has implemented a rigorous relay strategy. According to the challenge rules, each participant reads in two-hour shifts, ensuring that the change between readers does not exceed 30 seconds, as any longer interruption could invalidate the record.
- Constant validation: Reports are sent to Guinness World Records every four hours.
- Health monitoring: A medical team permanently evaluates the physical condition of the young people.
- Logistics: Participants have an area equipped for rest and recovery before taking their shifts.
The path to a new historic milestone
After reaching the first hundred hours, the team has set its sights on the current mark of 431 hours and 32 minutes. If the reading pace remains constant, this time would be surpassed on Friday, September 18th. However, the group has a more ambitious goal: to extend the feat until Sunday, September 20th at 6:00 in the evening.
Beyond the figure, the Ministry of Youth emphasizes that this initiative seeks to demonstrate that, through discipline and positive actions, Dominican youth have the capacity to transform their environment and leave a significant mark on the country’s history.
