DGCINE promotes access to cinema with the launch of the Alternative Cinema Network (Rescad)
The General Directorate of Film (DGCINE), under the management of its Dominican Cinematheque, has taken a fundamental step to democratize cultural consumption in the country with the creation of the Dominican Alternative Cinema Hall Network (Rescad). This initiative seeks to decentralize film exhibition and strengthen the presence of both national and international productions that usually have less reach in traditional commercial circuits.
The official launch was formalized through an integration agreement between DGCINE and the iconic Casa de Teatro Foundation. The document was signed by Marianna Vargas Gurilieva, general director of the state institution, and Freddy Ginebra Giudicelli, a key figure of the renowned cultural entity.
A space for national talent
The Casa de Teatro hall, which is now integrated into the network, will offer a constant program that includes feature films, short films, and documentaries. In addition to the screenings, the space will become a meeting point for dialogue, allowing for discussions and encounters with filmmakers, thus fostering the development of new audiences.
Rescad was born to connect our works with more audiences and generate new opportunities for their exhibition and circulation. The incorporation of Casa de Teatro, an institution with a fundamental trajectory for Dominican culture, constitutes a significant starting point for this initiative.

Strategic support and sector growth
To ensure the success of this network, DGCINE will provide technical advice, content curation, and strategic support. This effort aligns with the new Fonprocine support line, which is specifically designed to boost the circulation of Dominican works in alternative spaces, providing creators with tools to promote their work outside of conventional theaters.

For his part, Freddy Ginebra highlighted that Casa de Teatro, with its five decades of history, reaffirms its commitment to art by joining this project. For the cultural manager, this is an invaluable opportunity for the seventh art to find new audiences and consolidate itself as a pillar in the country’s cultural life.
With this network, the DGCINE and the Dominican Cinematheque reaffirm their commitment to building a more diverse, inclusive, and accessible exhibition circuit for all Dominicans.
