Blow to smuggling: Customs seizes millionaire merchandise at the Caucedo Multimodal Port
In a decisive operation executed by the General Directorate of Customs (DGA) in collaboration with the Public Ministry, a shipment of goods attempting to enter the country irregularly was intercepted. The action, carried out at the Caucedo Multimodal Port, prevented tax evasion exceeding RD$42.2 million in import duties.
The finding was possible thanks to the intelligence and oversight efforts of the entity, which detected critical inconsistencies in the documentation of two containers. Upon conducting the physical inspection, the authorities discovered that the actual content of the cargo did not match what was declared to customs.

- 4.5 million Jaisalmer brand cigarettes.
- 961 televisions of various brands and sizes.
The economic impact of this illicit maneuver was broken down by customs authorities, who estimated that the first container represented a tax burden of RD$32,179,370.00, while the second added another RD$10,075,483.26, reaching a total value of RD$42,254,853.26 in evaded customs duties.
The operation, supported by the Smuggling Prevention and Prosecution Unit (UNIP-ERCON), reaffirms the institution’s commitment to zero tolerance against customs fraud and unfair competition, strengthening surveillance mechanisms to protect the national economy.
This result highlights the effectiveness of the control strategy implemented by the DGA, which seeks to dismantle networks dedicated to illicit trade. With this operation, the authorities reaffirm their capacity to ensure compliance with current regulations, guaranteeing transparent and orderly commercial exchange in the Dominican territory.
